Effective Affiliate Link Cloaking by Suzanne E Morrison

Affiliate marketing can be fun and very profitabl. These strategies involve selling someone’s product and receiving a commission for the sale.

There are effective and informative affiliate sites but the URL’s can be long and increase the possibility of someone ripping you off. So here are some suggestions for affiliate link cloaking.

The URL for an affiliate site can be very long and contain information on your status as an affiliate. If you promote your affiliate site and include the traditional URL, someone can see this information and then decide to circumvent your efforts by replacing the affiliate information with their own affiliate information.

This will mean that you can easily lose affiliate sales because the credit can be awarded to someone else. In order to avoid these kinds of situations, affiliate link cloakers were developed.

An affiliate link cloaker hides much of the information contained in an affiliate link. There are many websites which allows you to enter an affiliate link and then generates a shortened URL which hides much of this information and enables someone to click on it to get redirected to your affiliate site.

The cloaked URL is much shorter and hides the affiliate url. In many cases the potential customer no longer even realizes that the website is an affiliate link.

For example a typical affiliate link can look something like this example: http://www.youraffiliatewebpage.com/?id=youraffiliateid . Someone could decide to replace your affiliate id information with their own. However a cloaked link could look something like http://www.mywebpage.com/samplelink .

If you want to apply affiliate link cloaking, there are many options. If you do a Google search under “affiliate link cloaking”, you will find many websites which allow you to enter an affiliate link and then have it converted. Or you can create a small routine which resides on your webpage and has a command which redirects a click on that program to your affiliate page.

I do not have specific recommendations as many of these sites and services work quite well. To see what kind of results and performance you can achieve just experiment a little with some of the more popular sites.

In this way you can hide your affiliate links and achieve the best results without worrying about someone replacing your affiliate information with their own.

You can also achieve the best results from the efforts you put into promotion. Otherwise you risk diluting your results from unscrupulous people.
